Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. They don't move material like a belt sander, but they leave a less obvious scratch pattern than an oscillating sander or non-random orbital.

I'm on my second, both of them corded. They're good for sanding patch ups and take a lot of time out of the work.

An Ozito one is only like 50 bucks and it works fine. For that price, once it shits itself, you won't mind.

I've got one of those old square electric AEG sanders that I nicked from my grandfather's shed. It was made in fucking WEST Germany and it still works and has a lot of power.
