I’m in my late 30s and a buddy of mine invited a bunch of us over to play Texas hold ‘em poker and it got me wondering if that’s even still a thing for younger (20s) people. I’ve noticed casinos have really scaled back / closed their poker rooms over the years and you don’t even hear about Texas hold ‘em like you did in the late 90s / 2000s when it blew up.

Thoughts? Concerns? E-Rock Comment?

Poker is fun, but the people playing it at a casino are mostly degens and cunts. Home games are where it's at.

I know a poker pro that is basically instantly recognizable for anyone who follows poker. Here is what he said to me about poker over the years:

- Most televised cash games are rigged. Everyone is playing with each other's money so they make huge moves like $1million bluffs. Because in the end they settle with each other for like 1/10th of the money that was actually played. So a $1million bluff is really like $10K. They are basically putting on a show like the WWE and the stakes are not really real.
- Most televised cash or streaming games give the top players an appearance fee that covers their buy-in or a large portion of it. So they are never playing with their own money and can play wildly.
- Cash game players sell portions of their buy-ins online and rarely stake their own money. Same with big tournament players. Who once they make a profit for the year do not risk anymore they just sell action.
- No one makes money in poker outside of the casinos. Most top players have to get sponsors or get a casino to sponsor them.
- Half of the absolute top pros, like in the $10million plus earnings range, have gone broke. Maybe even more.
- When you play in the casino for a living you have to beat the players AND the rake to make money. Which makes playing poker for a living even harder than most people realize.
- With people playing casino cash games on streams now there have been a string of robberies lately. Where someone watches a big poker game on their phone, sees a guy won $50K, then they rob him at gunpoint outside of the casino.

Piggy :image_9251: backing off lingerlonger the days of grinding holdem in the casinos are long gone
They’re boring as shit, unless you’re drinking or with friends.
Half the table are douchebags with headphones in and glasses that sre reading 2+2 poker forums and show up with 2 buy ins, the other half are grump old fucks mad at the former

I spent about a year after college grinding the 5/10 nl tables online, 6-8 tables at a time.
Ended up pretty much break even
Anybody who says they make a living playing poker is lying through their teeth as theyre sponsored, or making 2k a month grinding micros online and live with their parents
The big boys use bots online or go to the high roller (keith! Bung hole rotten cunt!!) section on the vegas strip (they’re already wealthy anyways)

It can be fun but I need practice. A group of friends would play online every Friday night during the pandemic and it was a good time but I had to stop because they would roll me every week since I was a beginner and I could t stand to lose $100 in one hand

I just played at my buddy's last night and it was fun. Cunts at the casino take it way to seriously for it to be enjoyable and I was playing like 2-4 no limit

I’m more just wondering if younger people are playing it. I’m in my mid to late 30s and Texas hold ‘em blew up when I was young and was a big thing for a while but now casinos have either really scaled back their poker rooms or just closed them all together since it’s not as popular as it used to be.

I work around a good amount of younger people (first real job out of college, mid 20s types) and I hear them talk about playing fantasy sports, video games, or actual sports with their friends but never poker and the only guys I know that have poker games are my age and older

I'm not real plugged in but I think you're right. younger people don't play poker as much, it's not a fad like it was 15-20 years ago with young people
