Not sure it could be remotely done; you could potentially make a chip go hard-short across the power, maybe even engage a FET to short, but I'd assume the circuit tracks would blow before the battery.

Yeah it’s quite the operation if they really got some mole in to hand out a bunch of bomb pagers to them. I read in another article that new versions pagers were given out to everyone a few months ago so I guess that would be the most likely explanation.

It’s not as if we are all carrying devices that are one malicious attack from blowing up…right?
