I'm so afraid of heights. I work on roofs all the time and having to work over the edge scares the shit out of me. Seeing people climb extreme heights makes my stomach lurch like I'm the one doing it.

My husband and I were at a friend's property for a 4th of July bbq and he was showing us his new house under construction. We were leaving the second floor and I froze at the top of the ladder (the staircase hadn't been built in yet). I had to be gently encouraged and talked down by the two of them - my husband got on the ladder right below me so I'd feel safe that he'd catch me. It was so embarassing because it was our first time spending so much time with the host.
This video was wonderful but my palms broke into a sweat when he hoisted himself over that scaffolding. Bless him.

The same thing happened to me when I was a kid. Getting back on the ladder is the scary part. The same situation, my cousin was building an addition to his house and I went up no problem and then it was way higher than I thought and I went fear-retarded and my brain just wouldn't let me figure out how to get back on the ladder without feeling like I was going to fall. My younger cousins, two of whom were girls, did it no problem and my dad and my older cousin were getting annoyed that I was being such a pussy. It was embarrassing.
My dad used to take me to a climbing gym all the time to get over it. I got really good at rock climbing and wasn't scared while I was doing that because I knew if I fell the harness would stop me from dying.

When you're up high and you've never gone down a ladder before it's scary as shit. I was on a roof once as a full grown man and had to step down onto a ladder and turn my body, and if I do it wrong I die. I really had to psych myself up. Wish I had done it as a kid.

A ladder is way more scary than a rollercoaster or ski lift because you're in control. You have to coordinate 2 hands and 2 feet and if for some reason you mix them up and slip then it could be brown bread. So you do it slowly like you're playing chess upside down or something and everyone looks at you like you're a retard. At least, I've heard some people have that problem.
