WWAW 80’s metal?

I went to see Mercyful Fate last November, and aside from one new song, they only played stuff from the first three releases. It was fantastic, one of the greatest gigs I've ever seen. And I had measured expectations going in.

Slayer Hell Awaits is pretty great.
Those first three albums, Haunting The Chapel, and Live Undead are all awesome.

I'm a Reign guy, but South is right there. Seasons is good too. They never became full-blown terrible, though, even the later albums are, at worst, respectable. Diablous was probably their low-water mark, but even that one had a handful of decent tracks.
Divine Intervention is underrated, in fact I might like it better than Seasons. World Painted Blood was a pretty good one, too.

I think Darkness Descends (1986) is one of the best metal albums of all time. Very underrated, and Dark Angel never had another album quite like it.

I grew up with new wave, metal and grunge all within a decade. I liked almost every hair band in the mid 80's but a lot of it doesn't stand the test of time today. It was a great era to get in to music, though.

This one was always a favorite of mine, the album before they got all weird and gay. They did a comeback record in 2006 that totally crushes.

There's a live YouTube video of them from the 80's playing a live gig where almost no one showed up. There were maybe 200 people so they had to be creative with the camera work. The lead guitar player was unique to say the least. I'm pretty sure it was in one of the major British cities just can't remember all the details.

I saw them in 2006 in Las Vegas, and they were excellent. After "To Mega Therion" they got all weird and arty, then they recorded "Cold Lake", which was the wimpiest, wussiest take on hair metal maybe ever. Their credibility was completely destroyed, and deservedly so.

Yeah, Bonded By Blood was peak Exodus. Paul Baloff was a truly terrible singer, but there was something endearing about him, a certain retard charm that wasn't a put-on or an act. That Zetro guy is just kind of clownish, and not as good. Firing Baloff was a big mistake, but at the time it was probably justified, as the guy was a certifiable nut.

I never got into King Diamond as much as I got into Mercyful Fate, but lately I've been digging into his solo stuff again. I just could not believe how good he still sounds.
