Writers are losers

Calling yourself a writer today is like calling yourself a polymath or a philosopher. Anyone can write. It is just a matter of having enough free time, or being enough of a fucktard to waste your time doing something completely unproductive. This applies to comedians too, and people who are trying to be YouTube celebrities or influencers, but writers undeservedly have a lot more prestige.

It probably applies to anyone chasing fame doing something stupid that lots of people can do. At least actors and musicians are generally good looking or charismatic. Writers are just fucking losers.

If you look at the bios page for the SFWA board, they all have had "past lives" or are "juggling projects". They all want to present themselves "jack of all trades" types. Does anyone do this who has an actual career?

Writing used to be an elite profession. But, just like being a recording musician, the internet and the accessibility of getting your work out there has really lowered the bar to where being a "writer" or a "musician" is about as lucrative as being a short order cook claiming to be a chef. Talent, discipline, hard work and sacrifice don't mean anything anymore because any dipshit can self publish a one draft piece of shit about space McDonald's, and BOOM! They're a "writer" - moreso if they're a mentally ill man in a dress or a consonant heavy island name.

Tl;dr - ANYONE CAN DO IT

Just like calling yourself a journalist as well. Or a fighter.

The bar is so low nowadays for a lot of professions and hobbies that anyone can LARP as anything they want. There's no standard, so no one questions whether an individual is talented or even good at their thing. Everyone's an armchair expert thanks to google and their phone.

What separates the "talented" from everyone else is really just charisma, and whatever "solution" or shit they're selling. The fitness industry is full of people like this; good looking men and women with six packs, who are loaded on monkey hormones, with no understanding of exercise selection, giving out workout advice that wouldn't benefit the average joe. It sickens me to be honest witcha.

Honestly, man, 20 years ago, someone making egregiously obvious errors like Pat with his "eclectic" / "elliptical" would have been laughed out of the industry, not to mention his dogshit writing where faraway alien cultures idolize 80s pop culture, and the "protagonist" had to make himself not have sex with the Asian child prostitute.
