The dynamic started in the Medieval fields/shtetls...the Christian Kings/Clergy told the Jews, "ok, you can stay in our land but you CANNOT purchase property, and can be expelled any time on a whim...btw we are short in cash, care to loan us?"
The Jew elders said:
"Ok, these faggots dont want us to own land, so we will never become farmers. But we are cunning and good at trading, other languages etc, so let's just stick to conducting business? We are wusses, unlike the Muslims so we wont fight them directly to own land, but what we will do is send our sons to school and educate them, while they focus on expanding territory.
