Love it. They don’t shit on Christian’s, despite having every opportunity to. Original plot, funny, and well acted.
One thing I really appreciate about it. They could've gone the easy route of "durr look how stupid and hypocritical Christians are". Instead them being a famous Christian family plays more into the characters and power dynamic in the family than anything.

They delayed the second season too long. The show jumped in time too much. It seems like these stories are more appropriate for a third or fourth season. Like the first season was abandoned. I also hate how they are reusing storylines already.

In the first season everything is about Gideon bringing his friend from LA and robbing the family. Plus introducing the family and cast of characters. By the end they basically accidentally kill Scotty and it is a huge surprise to them to cause a death. Where is the aftermath of that? And now they have characters openly murdering other people. Seems like a huge stretch for the family to be involved in murders now. The first season was a little more subtle. Second season is more of the same, starts with someone trying to extort the family (first season was Scotty, this season a reporter), they fight off the blackmailer and in the first season think that they killed them, in the second season they apparently did kill them, and now the remainder of the season will be the coverup and how they get out of it all in the end.

Maybe things will not follow the same pattern but most shows were like this. Introduce a bad guy, main characters fight bad guy, main characters eventually win. Almost every season of Dexter was like this.

Also the writing is lazy now. Eli and his wrestling friend JUST HAPPEN to be at a bar where a guy starts a fight with them. Coincidental writing like that is bottom of the barrel tier story telling. Also the guy who they fought could probably beat their asses into pudding simultaneously. John Goodman throwing punches did look realistic and hard hitting for someone who is 70. It was not like fucking DeNiro in The Irishman where he beats up the store owner in maybe the worst fight sequence in cinematic history.

I see what you're saying, but after how crazy Vice Principals got I'm not counting David Gordon Green to take this series in a more unpredictable and different direction than whats to be expected.

Also hope Eric Andre's character dies a brutal death.

Sucks. Eastbound was great. Humor doesn't hit and then it tries to get too serious. Decide if you want to be a dumb comedy or a crime drama and fucking stick with it.

I like Gemstones but Vice Pricipals is criminally underrated. Might even like it more than Eastbound & Down, and they ended it before it got stale.
I agree with you. Don't get me wrong Eastbound was great, but by the third season it was starting to get a bit stale. Vice Principals was a great concept, great chemistry, and the end of the first season was genuinely shocking because it wasn't what you'd expect from that kind of show. It perfectly set up a second season to conclude the story and it went out strong. I think Vice Principals was the best of the three so far.

Vice Principals blows away pretty much all other comedy shows. Two quick seasons. Middle episode is a huge shocker with the school shooting. Ends well before it gets stale. Tons of dark humor but more realistic level of humor. And not really a faggy happy ending either aside from the smoking hot blonde getting to write her book. They could have made Vice Principals like four or five seasons probably and it would have still been good.

Eastbound and Down became overly comedic and unrealistic. And then it got stale. I find rewatching Eastbound to be a slog at the end and I have to basically force myself to sit through the last season if I binge watch it. But the show did still go out strong and never lost its edge at least. The ending is also sort of meta, in that it basically implies that everything you have been watching up to that point is not real, but how Kenny remembered his life as he typed it into his laptop. So all the stuff with Ashley BMW and the crazy Mexico trip are basically fantasies of his mind and not actually real. So you can sort of excuse the ending if you interpret it as all of it being a memory of Kenny's and not real. The number of chapters in his memoir at the end is equal to the episode count so it was likely the true ending.

I like it and it's unfortunate that it's a follow-up to Vice Principals since that one is one of the best comedies of the 2010's, it will never be able to live up to that.
