Where we at with boxing being a “dead sport”?

When was boxing the most popular?
70s with Ali vs Frazier and later Foreman and Holmes. Late 80s to mid 90s was when it was really big with Tyson, Holyfield etc, it helped put the AC casinos on the map in the 80s having the big fights. It started to lose popularity in the 2000’s and has become a joke. Mayweather’s great record involves fighting bums and avoided Manny in his prime. Now it’s pretty much WWE and the rise UFC really hurt the sport.

From the 1920's through to 1990, when Tyson lost his first fight. It's been all downhill since then. Boxing used to be huge in the USA, they aired major title bouts right on TV. Ali-Spinks I (when Ali lost) aired free on ABC on a Wednesday night. Boxers were major stars who everyone knew. Tyson was the last huge superstar boxer, not to say the last good fighter but the last one who had that kind of popularity and fame.

Boxing and tennis, my two favorite sports, are dead in the US. We focus on nothing other than the literal retards that play football. The UFC and the NFL are hot fucking garbage and I have more respect for people who watch wrestling at this point. I can not put into worlds by hatred for football, what a white trash garbage sport.

Edit: I also fucking hate the "who would win in a street fight" horseshit when it comes to boxing in comparison to UFC. It is the way children look at shit, just like ketchup.

Gay UFC will never come close to gaining the popularity that boxing once had. Sports in general don't have the same hold over the general population that they once did. The entire country used to gather around radios to hear big prizefights, horse races and World Series games in the middle of the afternoon on weekdays. Nowadays the Super Bowl is the only real "national event" and that's mostly due to the faggotry attached to it, not because anyone gives a fuck about the game itself.

I just mute NFL games now. It's much more pleasant that way. That way I can listen to something else during a seven minute replay review instead of listening to Joe and Troy jabbering about the runner's fucking knee being down from every conceivable angle.

I'm sad to say this but I actually like Joe Buck, but I know nothing about his NFL commentary. I grew up with Joe Morgan (who everybody also seemed to hate) and Jon Miller. I still love Jon Miller and wish sunday night baseball was still a thing worth watching. I watched the Joshua v Usyk fight today, seriously entertaining and Usyk is a master boxer which is extremely rare with this big guys. I'm actually going to the Fury Wilder fight in two weeks, can't wait to see it,

UFC for sure, but I don't think wrestling hurt it very much. During boxings heyday, territory wrestling was at its peak as well with both drawing consistent huge crowds pretty much everywhere. The corruption in boxing hurt it as much as anything.

I meant WWE in the sense that boxing itself has become almost staged and gimmicky which hurt it. I wasn’t clear with my writing just like a certain fat sci fi writer.

Boxing is still a far bigger payday than UFC. Even gimmick fights.

MMA won't ever truly undertake it as boxing is a easier entry level ( one discipline instead of how many in MMA) and much of the world doesn't have a wrestling background.

How American boxing didn't turn Wilder into a superstar I will never know. KO artist who can talk. Even has a legit sob story disabled kid origin story. Instead canelo is the biggest current ticket seller and draw...

When floyed Mayweather knocked out some one who I'm drawing a blank on their name on a cheap shot. Larry merchant walked in to the ring for an interview and said "if I was a few years younger I would whoop your ass." That's the last live fight I watched.
