Anytime anyone says that, my mind automatically thinks they're gay. But apparently, millenials and Gen-Z who technically aren't gay (just faggots in spirit), refer to the other person in their relationship as "partner." Why?

For the longest time I thought partner was supposed to be a more serious title than girlfriend/boyfriend, but not quite as serious as fiancé. Must be another poncy thing from UK that I never questioned.

I've never referred to any girlfriend as a "partner", but I've done it when introducing or referring to friends' girlfriends or fiancés, just to be nice.
