The last time I talked to my older brother, I was apologizing for something I did (can't remember) and he kept saying to just embrace who I am and stop apologizing. I kept apologizing though, and he sighed and said something like "look, I don't want to hurt your feelings... But you've never been that important to me".

I didn't say anything, just left his house and we haven't spoken since then.

My mother's decades-long best friend and drinking buddy laid into me for being lazy and coasting on my potential but never really doing anything with myself.
