What ended up happening with the accusations against Hugh Hefner? And what do we think the validity of them are?

Most of the top Bing searches are just about his death. There were originally some pretty heavy accusations coming out. Pressuring the women, beastiality was thrown around a bit, and obviously he liked to party hard in the 70’s.

Playboy tossed him under the bus but I’m shocked they still exist to begin with:
“Today’s Playboy is not Hugh Hefner’s Playboy,” Playboy said in a statement. “We trust and validate these women and their stories and we strongly support those individuals who have come forward to share their experiences ... It is critically important that we listen."

Stupid bitch alert:
In 1963, Gloria Steinem went undercover as a Playboy bunny in one of Hefner's clubs, writing in her investigation that "there were a few customers, a very few, either men or women (I counted ten), who looked at us, not as objects, but smiled and nodded calmly as if we might be human beings."

I only read this one article but I don’t see anything other than the usual “power dynamics” and grooming claims.

Gloria Steinam is a known MOSSAD agent.

They’re all true.
I don’t doubt it but it sounded like it was going to be a massive bombshell then I didn’t hear anything else about it. Grooming an adult is a retarded concept. There’s something to be said about boilerplate abuse tactics but they could have left and lived a normal life. They wanted the lifestyle though.

And its why no one gives a fuck. Wow, Hugh Hefner was a creep and sex pest??? How do you even print that and get any attention on it. It’s not like you’re saying, idk, the guy from Blues Clues is a pedophile and rapist.
The hype from the build up to the documentary made it sound like it was going to be a huge reveal. I was surprised that the magazine got some credit for pushing sex liberation for women ahead. I just assumed people always viewed it as degrading smut. Apparently authors as famous as Kurt Vonnegut wrote pieces in them. I only remember the naked women part. I should ask my old friend’s dad for the boxes of them he had in the basement for da goof. I have one with Stern on it, hoo hoo.

I always assumed that too especially given I was born in the era of internet pornography. So to me Playboy was just center folds. Then I find out Jimmy fucking Carter did some interview with them once.

So yeah I guess you flip around and whack your bag and when it’s over you can read some hard hitting political commentary.

Magazines used to contain actual reading material, like legit, in-depth articles, stories, interviews and etc. Playboy, Penthouse, Sports Illustrated, even High Times. Then, over time, they eliminated all those pesky words, and reduced everything to glossy photos and brief blurbs. Plus, they didn't need to pay writers anymore. Playboy featured lots of in-depth interviews with all kinds of celebrities, it was almost kind of a prestigious thing a long time ago.

Maxim was one of the first to go all-in with the blurby watered-down trash. Every other magazine I subscribed to back then (Details, Spin, Men's Health, Sports Illustrated) changed to a similar format within two years.

It worked for Maxim bc Maxim was filled with dumb content. But dumbing down legit news articles killed a lot of decent rags.

Fun fact: Every Playboy cover has an 'easter egg' in the form of a hidden Playboy bunny.

Can you find it here? 😜

Lots of famous interviews that made news (not fluff pieces). That Carter interview is well known for Jimmy's, "I've had lust in my heart."

The owners of Studio 54 got busted for tax evasion and shut down after bragging about having two sets of accounting books for scamming purposes in a Playboy interview.

A lot of solid, middle-brow content and the prettiest girls.
