He's his friend. Spade spoke about filming this and norm's memorial service stuff on the podcast he does with Carvey. He basically said it felt weird & awkward doing it

Sandler and Chappelle were the only ones that felt like they belonged there. Everyone else was there because Netflix wanted them to be. If they really wanted to get Norm's true friends they would've gotten Artie there
Tbf, I think that Norm & Artie had a falling out at some point. But even if the rumors are true, at one point he was definitely closer to Norm than any of the people providing commentary.
Where did you hear they had a falling out? It wouldn't surprise me considering Artie's reputation, but I never heard otherwise.
There was a time that it was suspected that Artie fucked over Norm when it came to being a courier/go between for gambling payments & debts. Artie may have run off with atleast 100k of Norm's money.

even Artie's bitter pig ass wouldn't speak badly of norm though. He would have had some good stories to tell. I was surprised that Chappelle of all people was the one who seemed the most emotional. Sandler was chill and seemed like he knew the guy well. Conan and Letterman had a few good insights.
to be fair to Norm, artie himself would admit he drove a lot of people away being a junkie fuck. I don't think he'd blame any of them.
