The versions on Bluray and HBO have a dub as well. The original language is not Italian it's a weird dialect within Naples. First three seasons are good. Last two were awful. And the movie was pointless. I hated the ending though. Last few seasons have some Game of Thrones level shock moments like whacking pregnant women and other almost hilarious "look at how edgy we are" scenes.

Some of the stories in it are based on real ones. Like Cirro taking the young girl to a warehouse and torturing her and killing her. That was taken from a real life event that was similar. And how poor most of the mobsters are is realistic as well. Fighting each other over scraps.

I liked the ending of the movie, I haven't watched the show yet but was considering it. The sincerity about the poverty reminded me of city of god.

It's similar to Sopranos in that Uncle Junior is a boss but lives in a dingy house. Paulie lives in a tiny ground floor condo. And the rest are dying and killing over houses that barely qualify as middle class. But poverty in America is far more acceptable than in the poorest areas of Europe. Where they are living in filth ridden ghettos and in total squalor.

I always laugh in Sopranos when the big exclusive "Executive Game" is held in a rundown shoddy motel populated by hookers and drug addicts. But that hotel room was like paradise compared to the living conditions in Gomorrah.

If you like Italian shit, you need to check out My Brilliant Friend. The books are amazing and the show is an incredible adaptation. It also has what is probably one of my favourite scores, Max Richter did it.

I've watched the movie and the first two seasons of the show. Pretty great stuff that discards all the romanticism you see in other mafia media for a more realistic take. Everyone in the show is just a scumbag living a shit life, and at best the top guys can hope to decorate their run down apartment with some gaudy gold ornamentations.

Why does everyone look like such a faggot though. It's hard to take Gennaro seriously with his earrings, mohawk and gay v neck shirts.
