The failure of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan shattered that. On the right, a lot of people, particularly younger, had to admit the hippies were right all along -- the Iraq war was built on a lie and a War on Terror was unwinnable.

Trump's election validated isolationism as a mainstream position.

On the left, that's mostly just a demographic shift. White Christians are the only people who like Israel and they are becoming a smaller part of the pie every year.

The largest televised slaughter in human history, and subsequently the first time Jewish Power is being questioned with (at least some semblance of) sincerity in my lifetime.

Israel created ISIS. Muslims are doing fantastic from a PR perspective right now. I'd imagine Shlomo has decided that it's time for a narrative change. An ISIS attack sounds about perfect from a Jewish POV.
