What made radio of that era enjoyable was that it was live, improvised, and reaching a large audience in your area. They might convince a girl to humiliate herself for tickets to some empty calorie pop band. You could nervously call into the show with some terribly executed joke.

A lot of the live show's excitement doesn't translate to re-listening 20 years later.
