If you listened at WAAF or WNEW before Norton got on you might have never warmed up to him. And there were times on O&A like his book writing or Lucky Louie where he would just vanish from the show for prolonged periods. The fact is that WNEW and XM management hated him and constantly tried to replace him. But Opie had dealt with WAAF people trying to replace Anthony and he refused to listen to anyone in corporate suggesting anything for the show anymore.

Norton has some of the greatest moments on the show. And his highlights would come out of nowhere. Like the Jeter photograph or him chasing the stolen bus. You never knew what might happen. But if you listen to full shows from start to finish you will see that Norton basically was unfunny and hack level most of the time. Same "puddle of AIDS" or "prep the bull" jokes nonstop.
