Why does NBA, NFL, etc. allow teams to sign players from all over the country? It makes absolutely zero sense to have team loyalty when all your players are not even from your city, probably have never been there, and only live there locally to primarily do business. It's like having loyalty to a company's intellectual property.
Growing up in NYC and knowing of the Yankees vs. Red Sox feud, it never made sense to me when Boston fans would suck the cocks of players from other cities just because the team contracted them at the time. Then whenever they take a better gig, the Boston fans turn on the player and act like they always sucked. Like psychotic ex girlfriends who stayed with you for years, but trash you way later, like it's not a reflection on them too.
It makes a lot more sense, if you do it my way. The Yankees should only be New Yorkers. The Lakers should all be California retards. Fuck, at least do it by STATE. You don't have to force the city restriction, but please "make it make sense" as the childish women say these days. It just never made sense to me that a player's team is decided by the highest bidder rather than their region. Sure, there are some cities that might be a little weak with output of good players for certain sports. But it would also be interesting to see what weird developments would happen with how people from certain regions play as a team. Plus it would drive more rivalries between cities, which also raises the stakes and makes for passionate betting.
But here's my strongest point - If you do it my way, then you validate the psychotic fans who say "WE" and "US" when they talk about sports. You give someone a reason to support the local team, other than it's named after your city and the games happen to take place close by. It gives the fan a larger investment, especially young fans who can relate to a player having gone to their school, etc. It would raise the stakes for college leagues/games too. More people would care about watching the future local heroes.
Why did you all do it this way, Before I came around and fixed it for you? It makes no sense why people from Boston can play on the Yankees.
