Temple of Doom is NOT racist or problematic, unless you are stupid enough to think that it's trying to be a realistic fictional portrayal rather than the hyperbolic serial it's based upon.
Everyone, including Indy himself, is 2 dimensional at best. It's a cinematic equivalent of a roller coaster ride. The "exotic dishes" served in the palace that everyone cries about serve an actual narrative purpose because they were intended to frighten away the unexpected guests like Indy and his companions as well as the British military guy.
Willie Scott had to be a shrill damsel in order to differentiate her from Marion, the Mary Sue from Raiders. If they had made Willie more independent, Redditors like Pat would have said that they were repeating themselves and that she was a trope.
