This reminds me a story I heard from a Buddhist monk. Its probably a story every Buddhist monk uses because it's a pretty good metaphor for dealing with pests.

While sitting in the mountains meditating he'd see the occasional eagle fly through an area dominated by crows. The crows would all flock together and attack the eagles by dive bombing them.

Now the eagle could easily fight a crow and win, however, he would just get hurt in the process. And there are always more crows.

He could destroy the crows nests but he'd neglect his own survival duties on this task. And there are always more crows. Maybe this time stronger crows, that will do more damage.

Instead nature found the perfect balance.

The crows divebomb the eagles, but the eagle just waits until the last second and tucks in his wing allowing the crow to divebomb right past him. Then he carries on his way. He can't ignore the crows, but he only needs to expell the least amount of energy and it is not a problem anymore.
