Afghanistan has consistently beaten the most powerful militaries in history. This wasn't their first time, however the reason they won this time because like Vietnam we half assed it. When you declare war against an idea and not it's people, you just can't win. The only way to win with a powerful military like this is total war, but that would require the USA to not be politically correct and actually admit they have to kill Afghans and deradicalize them like they did Germany.
Trying to win hearts and minds while the war was happening was no help either, warlords were turning people they had beefs with these same friends would then turn the guns on the US troops again, total war, the entire time and then you'll achieve victory

Yeah the goal of the war was to launder a couple of trillion dollars of CIA money. Not to actually redevelop Afghanistan into some Western paradise with Disneyworld and Six Flags and Michelin chefs. "Wow we didn't kill every terrorist and give Afghanistan their own burger joints, casinos, and skateparks.....looks like we lost this one....maaaaaan!".

Obviously we could just bomb the entire country from the air and cut off their food supplies and kill them in a year. The Soviets killed over 5million Ukrainians through starvation from 1932 to 1933. One year of famine got them a few million deaths in a first world country.

The point of these wars is not to actually win. Just to launder money and throw a few thousand American men into an early grave.

I had a few buddies go fight over there and they said the Iraqi soldiers themselves were pathetic. One of my buddy's units marched into one of Sadam's palaces and he said the place was littered with the stupid Darth Vader helmets the Iraqi Special forces wore. He said it looked like they peaced out when they saw the American soldiers coming and just left all their gear scattered all over the place.

Another buddy was in Afghanistan and talked a lot of shit about their fighters, too. They would fall for the same simple tactical maneuvers over and over again. They would make tracks that were easy to follow and lure the insurgents into tracking them, lead them up a mountain, get visual on them from the high ground, then double back, fan out and vent them. He said Afghanis are dumb like dogs.

The Afghanis only won because the powers that be decided the war was over, which is the root of the "long time insurgents win wars" lie. The Afghanis rule an empire of shit made worse by constant military invasions. They haven't "won" shit.

There were literally jihadists with US and UK passports fighting against our troops. They would fly from America or Europe to like Turkey or Egypt or whatever and make the rest of the trip by car or train. Then meet some jihadists who would arm them and point them in the direction of the Americans. This still happens with ISIS and ISIL. The job the the Tsarnaev brothers aka the Boston Marathon Bombers was to inform the FBI and CIA when people would travel from local mosques to a foreign country.

Turns out beating guerilla fighters in their own country is pretty hard. Especially when a decent chunk of said guerillas aren't scared of dying and blend in with civilians. Unless you level entire cities and burn all the crops to starve the enemy out and demoralize the nation, you won't get much done.. and Western countries won't do that.. at least not directly anyways.
