Do people really just standing outside their house drinking? Every time I've drunk with people we were sitting down.

Where I grew up, yes. It usually starts with one dude doing stuff in his yard, then a neighbor walks over to comment on something like how much they paid for the new trailer on their lawn tractor. Another neighbor sees this and walks over to see what all the fuss is about, possibly also intrigued about the trailer and wanting to know if it has a dumping function. Yet another neighbor will see three men standing around drinking and will wander over just to hang out.

Here in Texas, yes. More often in driveways or upon front porches.

They loved the couch -- they even continued to use it after Kahn revealed it be his old soiled and discarded furniture. They only stopped because Bill stole it and kept it as his own.
