Here I thought the last days of my short break was going to be a quiet time to catch up with my good friends and my lovely woman. Nothing to distract me at all.
But you motherfuckers... You pull me back in like Michael Corleone every time. If I miss a day, I miss everything. And this really was everything.
Life is like a roulette table. It takes so much luck for it to land on your number - and through the commitment and work ethic of you boys (and ladies), we were gifted by the universe the last whining vestiges of a broken man. You didn't just break that man, - you broke the whole casino pulling this off.
When Gosia awoke the morning after all this began, I told her what had happened with Patrick - and bless her with her sick love for psychology, she wasn't the least bloody surprised this happened. Of course, the first thing she asked me was if he killed someone (she's certain that's coming nexxxxxxxxxt).
We spent a good part of that day listening to and discussing the audio, along with your lads perspectives, much like we did with Josiah 5. She's always been a keen mind for things like this, and we had a pretty good debate over it. My belief is he self-swatted alone and it backfired; she thinks Nikki was involved (ergo the angry ex comment, like a woman called this in) and did it as a vengeful act - though she's still unsure it was as a lesson for him being drunk, or an assist in his plan. If we didn't have commitments that evening with friends, we probably would have discussed his behaviour until bedtime. It was that engrossing.
And I guess that's where I'm landing here: this is like a finale to a drama that actually nailed its ending. It's been a steady build to his lowest point, and I can't seem to imagine how much lower this can get. I thought this at Josiah 5 as well, so I've been wrong, but good God, man, what's left? His wife clearly hates him, his family hates him, her family hates him, his neighbors hate him, and his friends enable him from a distance - what does he really have?
So, I ask of you: after something like this, who has really had it lower? I go with Pat myself, but then again, I'm biased, if you can't tell. Even Pat hasn't toured America, lads, remember this when you vote...
