I've said it before, but anyone else I would feel sorry for.

But in Rick's case, this is entirely self-inflicted. He thinks if he brings this kind of trouble into his life then those around him will feel bad on his behalf, and maybe give him some kind of fame for being victim. He's a shameless cry-bully though. My dad and older brother had massive temper tantrums when they were in their thirties and forties. They probably thought that they were being tough, scary guys when they were having them, but everyone was actually laughing at them behind their backs.
