Our enemies, the SFWA

Wikipedia says there are "approximately 2000" active members in the SFWA. All of which pay $100 yearly dues. 2000 x 100 = $200,000 a year. Of those 2,000 members, Rick has a grievance. The small handful of other members we go after fall into one of two categories:

A. Convinced pedophiles and the people that excuse them

B. Members that show up on Rick's twitter timeline to insult us

A bunch of people who fall into (B) get briefly made fun of but otherwise forgotten a few days later. James Buckley and his rockjaw wife, Tobias Buckell and his collection of kangol hats, etc. Our shenanigans really only affect four members, all white, in what I'd describe as three tiers:

A-Tier: Rick. Yeah, we shit on him pretty much every day.

B-Tier: Uncle Paul. Sensitive crybaby with questionable beliefs on the appropriateness of bathing other people's children.

C-Tier: Cat Rambo and Mary-Robinette Kowal.

It's those last two names that really make all the difference, because they have considerable influence amongst the higher-ups in the SFWA, as well as elitist attitudes towards disrespect. You do NOT call her Mary, you WILL call her Mary-Robinette. Both felt extremely offended by getting teased on the internet, and used their sway to approve Rick's lawsuit because they had a personal interest in getting "revenge" on us.

To recap, every single member of the SFWA paid approximately $50 to sue a bunch of anonymous stlakers who upset 0.2% of the SFWA userbase. Even then, can you really consider Rick part of that 0.2% when his grubby hands are outstretched asking for a handout? Every member paying ~$50, half their yearly dues, because 0.15% of the SFWA got butthurt, and coincidentally two of those three members happen to be former Presidents of the SFWA.

Is Jon Del Arroz still lurking somewhere? I'd love for the 1,996 members to find out what Cat & Mary-Robinette decided to do with their money.

Only somewhat recently did Rick rejoin the SFWA. This was after he received his TrumpBucks. Apparently paying $100 annually was too rich for his blood.

He has been sucking up to the SFWA leadership for some time now. I suspect that he had plans to sue Quasi hence why he rejoined that pedo organization.

Loans to active members in good standing will be limited to a maximum aggregate amount of 20% of the fund, which may only be used to pay for legal fees and costs (i.e., a member may not use the loan to pay damages in a case which s/he loses).

There's no way they're the financial backers with that kind of chump change. The President probably gets $100k, the treasurer gets $50K, $10K goes to legal admin fees and $40K goes to pepperoni(they know a guy).

It's probably Nikki and her whore mother.

Edit: Archive_bot got in quick with the numbahs I was really close. $135K on Salaries. CUNTS

But they said the fees are lower for BIPOCS or even waived completely. That leaves the total they make $199,900.

There's no doubt in my mind the SFWA has a diverse membership of all races, religions, sexualities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Authors who have faced discrimination, hatred, and other hardships in life but persevere on.

But the money's not to help them and their careers. It's to placate the ego of two arrogant white women who value their own vendettas over the good of the community. I hope Jeffe Kennedy, the current white woman serving as President, prioritizes amplifying BIPOC voices instead of a Sisyphean effort to placate her own fragile ego.

Nerd alert! I don’t have the full disclosure to review, but it looks to me like Line 11b is legal fees directly expensed in the service of SFWA (therefore deductible as operating expenses). A loan serviced by SFWA for legal fees would not be appropriate there, it would be more like carried revenue. Since it is a loan, they can’t show it as an expense- a loan is still an “asset” in cost accounting like this.

Look at Line 12. It’s opaque but my educated guess is they funded their “legal defense fund” out of general revenue. Their bylaws indicate that they have a fund but they’re not obligated to disclose debits and credits in such a fund on Form 990.

Not a CPA but I have run limited partnerships as well as my own non-profit. We never had a half a million to defend Weimer types though. We just wanted to help people have positive running experiences.

That second tweet is him telling us the SFWA spent money on smoothing over the consequences of his actions, even though he wasn't a member.

I'm kind of curious whether spending SFWA money for the benefit of non-members breaches any sort of laws or obligations on their part.

Here's pedophile defender Cat Rambo hanging out after pedocons with NAMBLA member Saumel Delaney.

“I read the NAMBLA [Bulletin] fairly regularly and I think it is one of the most intelligent discussions of sexuality I’ve ever found. I think before you start judging what NAMBLA is about, expose yourself to it and see what it is really about. What the issues they are really talking about, and deal with what’s really there rather than this demonized notion of guys running about trying to screw little boys. I would have been so much happier as an adolescent if NAMBLA had been around when I was 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.” — Samuel R. Delany, Queer Desires Forum, New York City, June 25, 1994.

Those legal fees are probably for in-house stuff. If they let the legal loans hit the statement of functional expenses on the 990, they'd show up as grants or assistance to domestic individuals, but SFWA expects the principal and interest back if you lose so they'd book the loans as notes receivable and keep them on the balance sheet. SFWA currently has no notes receivable on their balance sheet right now. Pat's will stick out like a sore thumb.

I know 990's backwards and forwards so I'll take a closer look at SFWA's 990 this weekend to see if I can make a contribution to the content. After briefly scanning it, what struck me was that it has a nice endowment and around 900K in unrestricted-undesignated net assets. That's more than enough to pay for Quasi's legal bills. The way I see it, if SFWA paid for this legal harrassment, it should be on the hook for it too.
