I fucking love that movie and I fucking love Jerry Reed.

Abe, I want that original version of Smokey and the Bandit 3, that they shelved and refilmed the majority of it, the one where Jackie Gleason played dual roles. The original teaser trailer for that still exist, but as far as I'm aware no original cut does.

Universal had their bums out the fucking window not going through with this. I guess the test audiences were "confused".

What fucking 80's movie ISN'T confusing!??

If it's Universal it night not. At minimum they lost a whole bunch of music masters in a fire.

I almost brought that up on my last post.

I'm still pissed at what we lost and I didn't even lose anything from it: Becks unreleased album with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, numerous old masters from legendary artists, episodes of I Love Lucy, digital archives of 100 year old plus film and TV, numerous Chess Records masters (that includes Chuck Berry), Danny Elfman's work (meh, no loss there), The Three Stooges (!)... I could go on but it angers me.

Even though it's slowly come to light how much they understated what was lost, I remember talking to my peers after it happened in 08; none of us believed their corporate speak bullshit, and we were proven right. You NEVER want to lose your masters. Copies are well and good, but the masters are your purest form of the sounds you created.

So the sad reality is yes, it really might have gotten lost in that fire forever, but Universal clearly doesn't give a fuck about their own records, so I doubt they'd look for it anyway.

My ONLY slim hope exists in the fact that long after that fire, footage from the original Eric Stoltz shoot from Back To The Future ended up finally getting a release as a special Blu Ray feature. God may be a Pat Poster, but I also believe he's a Jackie Gleason fan.
