I am going to be traveling more this year and I definitely want to add some security to my business and probably home too, but I don't really know what I need.

I don't think I want a Ring or something that notifies me every time there's a movement, but definitely some cameras that record activity and that I can look in on at any time.

Anyone have advice about affordable but effective coverage? Maybe 2-3 cameras in each location? I'll be researching soon but I figured I'd ask here too.

Continued success...

if you want it cheap without any subscription fee its got to be the chinese ones like Wyze or Hikvision. shit from Netgear and amazon ask for insane price like 9.99 a month for live notification or live viewing. personally i would go with wyze cause it sounds like one of the forum memeber

I got Tapo (TP-Link) for like $20 and they’re pretty good. They do the detection and notification shit but you can disable the notifications easily if you don’t want them. There’s a subscription to save clips on the cloud but you can avoid that by using a micro SD card instead and it will record whenever it detects something and you can view recordings in the app for free.

This is definitely the kind of high-quality advice I came here for.

For simplicty
Hikvision DVR/NVR and (compatible) cameras. USe IP and POE for easy of cable running.
Remote view using IVMS4200 and port forwarding if you have static IP or the hikvision hikconnect app if not (free, limit of one DVR)

I ran some Annke cameras for one of my bosses properties. I prefer wired/power over ethernet cameras as opposed to wifi. They are usually more reliable and if you have an NVR box you can bypass subscription fees. Buy a 1 tb harddrive for the NVR and run your own ethernet cable if you can manage that. You can get 8 cameras and plenty of storage for about 1k before ethernet cable. The cameras light up at night and you can configure addresses and crap if you want to get technical. The app is free to use if you want to monitor from your phone or tablet. It's more work than shitty chink wifi cameras that require a subscription but the value is there. I believe I installed the Nightchroma series. Regardless of the brand, POE is the way to go.

Something like this.

Don’t get anything from Arlo they make you pay some faggy subscription and the camera quality is ass.

I have a laser setup in one room that I wanted to monitor and the best fuckin thing I can do is HDMI a webcam feed to a TV in another room like a fucking stupid nigger.

Where do you want the cameras? (inside, outside, both?) Then, are you doing the install, and based on your house is it realistic to hardwire? (a professional knows what to expect to run into).

I can only comment on hardwire installs, that way no need to re-battery the cams. Hikvision is good (it's pronounced Hike-vision but it's funnier to call it Hick-vision). Also Geovision is an option, not sure what's cheaper.

Literally any IP Camera will do for you.
Or something like a Raspberry Pi w/ Camera

You need IDENTITY GUARD. If you get that feeling that you're not safe online, you wanna do something about it. You don't want to feel all exposed out there. All your financial information floating around out there in cyberspace just waiting for anyone who wants to to grab it. You wanna make sure you're protected.

Just do like my wife and install a Crestron system and then look to your spouse to provide the funds to keep it running.
