We believe the jews tried, and there was someone crucified, but it was not Jesus (he ascended to heaven, and is alive as we type this). The Quran is clear: someone (not Jesus) was crucified, and the Jews thought it was him.

Qur'an calls them: "Murderer of prophets". They failed with Jesus but they killed/assassinated a lot before. They also tried to poison prophet Mohammed, and when they were caught, the perp said: "We wanted to see if you were legit.
