Born On The 4th Of July is, by quite some distance, the best acting job Cruise has ever done. I think it was before Scientology really got its claws in and he was still allowed to play flawed characters. He should've won an Oscar for that.

Frank Whaley as his school friend who stayed home and made money, Raymond J Barry as his dad, Willem Dafoe as his crazy buddy in Mexico (kind of hints of Elias if he'd survived) Kyra Sedgewick as his girl he never got to bang, Tom Sizemore as his even crazier buddy in Mexico, Caroline Kava as his overbearing, awful mother.
