Afghanistan is made up of a shitload of different ethnic tribes, the largest of which is the Pashtun. You also have Uzbeks, Tajiks, Turkmen and many others. That's why you see some that look like Pakistanis and others have more of a Mongilian appearance. They are usually either Turkic or Persian ethnic groups in origin and there are lots of different languages which I won't even get into. The only thing that unites them is Islam, though they even fight over that. Also, it's a Central and Southern Asian country, not a Middle Eastern one, though most of them have no concept of nationhood. We look at it as a country and they see it as a collection of different tribal districts. Trying to nation build was always going to fail.
