Preamble: Opie's Eye was set on Howard for 2 reasons.

1. Brother Wease was Opie's mentor. Opie got a piece of his confidence from Wease, he was a major influence. This exemplifies Opie as a loyal and true student of the game, who learned with hands-on experience. In the trenches, with a father figure, who led him to a career. And one day Howard went after his mentor... BUT more importantly, his mentor's little daughter who did nothing to deserve being the target of abuse by the #1 talk radio show in the country. A young Opie was galvanized to shed his spuds buckley fake happiness and unload on Howie like the joker himself. This was where the beef began.

2. Howard was the #1 talk radio show in the country. Opie being the business man, kept Opie's Eye on #1 spot... NO matter who it was. A man who sets records with his salary is the man to beat. Why do you think Opie's Eye has been on Joe Rogan just a taste lately? Because Rogan's SPOTIFY deal set records, and they have a past. Are you finally understanding Opie's role in the show? Competiton. Putting the show out there. Staking your claims and letting them know who you are. Has Auntie done ANY of this with Compound? Only by accident, in getting his black ass fired on a FRIDAY... on HIS DAY OFF... How do you get your dumb black ass fired on YOUR DAY OFF? On a FRIDAY???

Without Opie positioning O&A as a competitor to Howard, their show would not have been pumped up in 2001 and 2002 the way it was. Opie, proving to be a master manipulator in the business, used his leverage as an on-air performer to state publicly that he wanted to be the afternoon show on a station with Howard and Ron & Fez at night, as it would be a no-brainer. Opie being magnanimous even overlooked the Wease attacks to give Howard props for successes...

The one misnomer on Opie's behalf was that Howard was talking about his father during the Mancow skullfuck comments with Dice. Which I was actually the one to originally uncover back in the old days when I was a young and stupid Opie Hater zombie. This just proves that Opie wasn't a Howard listener because he had no idea Howard said this about Mancow's daddys skull. He didn't get the reference. Auntie probably did but didn't speak up out of co-dependent fear.

Howard kicked them out of a press conference because he didn't want anyone else to be able to do a funny talk show in NYC. He knew 2 dopey jocks were more marketable than 1, so he stunted their growth and pulled strings behind the scenes. Howard gave O&A a reason to bite back. Opie hit Howard by leading the charge against his dopey jewish daughter. That's what we do now. THIS BRINGS ME TO MY BIGGER POINT...

Auntie likes to pretend that Opie was obsessed with Howard personally, like a bitter fanboy. In reality, Auntie was the Howard fanboy who listened every morning at work, had tapes, and when he started in radio himself (wonder why? ...[cough] fanboy) He imitated Howard's voice, which was pointed out by Howard himself. Opie never tried to sound like Howard. Find any clip where Opie did any Howard imitation voice, in fact Opie Hater zombies are known for acting like it's weird that Opie had a higher pitched voice when he was younger...... Human biology says odd shit to people dude.

Auntie was the one who "tried out" for Howard's show. Auntie is the one who listened to Howard so much that he could develop an imitation of his inflection and mannerisms. Opie admitted many times that he checked out Howard in the mid-80s, when Howard was first popular.... WHICH WAS AFTER Opie had already been doing radio in college, Howard was a nobody when Opie first expressed interest and put in work to do radio.

Opie brought you to the dance, Auntie. And you pay him back by talking shit about minor inconveniences at work, throw him under the bus for no reason other than he tried to keep your dumbass in line, bring you to the real world. Danny Ross behavior. Auntie is clueless to the business decisions Opie made for them.

No other show had ever really fought back before against Stern (except maybe the wire clipping guy from Cleveland which was an all time hardcore yet boneheaded move).

No other show actually beat O&A in any battle aside from Terry Clifford emerging victorious from Jocktober to pose with a Feed Nana sign with her son. Everyone else basically either took their beatings, and let the heat die down, or had to go to lawyers to stop O&A from playing their audio.

Some of the losses were particularly insane like the whole Dave Herman thing. Who was a DJ who spun records and absolutely hated O&A from their first week on air. Where he was trying to get O&A fired from WNEW and secretly taping them and sending the audio to police to try to entrap them or get them arrested for anything. Dave's ex-wife once called into O&A saying that she was taking all of his possessions from their house and selling them on the front lawn while he was away. He wanted O&A arrested for harassment and other stuff. A decade or so later he would be arrested for wanting to have sex with a six-year-old which was covered on O&A when it happened. Dave Herman said that O&A were disgusting and didn't belong on radio....yet he was raping kindergarten aged kids regularly.

And he had his security team sweep the entire crowd to see if they recognized anyone who might be an O&A associate or someone who didn't belong. Keep in mind that Howard would regularly send Stuttering John and others to public events and press conferences just to deliberately disrupt them and be loud and obnoxious.

That was after multiple gag orders, lawsuit threats, Dominic representing Anthony's wife, and all sorts of other nonsense. So O&A and Stern loathed each other at that point. Someone recognized Emily Stern in that play, and sent the information to Opie. Where behind the scenes they immediately hatched a plan to get tickets to a showing and secretly record the entire thing. They had done the same for the whole Kathleen Turner bit and succeeded so this was an easy feat for the O&A crew to record someone in a play without them knowing.

The rumor was that Emily had done the play behind her father's back. And the audio being played on O&A was how he found out. Zoo Za Zoo. So imagine Howard's surprise and distress when his arch enemies are playing tapes of daughter screaming "MY VAGINA!!!" over and over like a lunatic to the entire world.

If Anthony hadn't said that he was from the Opie Show on WBAB he would not only have won the Jack-Off aka the Jackie Martling Impression Contest on Stern. But he probably would have been hired to replace Billy West on the spot. His Kinison alone could have gotten him a full time job on Stern. His eagerness to sell himself as a radio equal instantly caused Howard to attack him and Gary and others in studio to refer to him and Opie as Stern cloned and ripoff artists. He was then kicked out of the studio and some other guy whose impression wasn't nearly as good was chosen as the winner.

But in the long run it made Stern look like an idiot. Because he kicked out the second most talented voice impressionist of all time behind Billy West for literally no reason other than more paranoia. And everyone knew that Anthony was by far the best impressionist that day.

You should seriously consider doing a book on shock radio. I'd read it. As far back as the 1980s, WNEW-FM (Where Rock Lives) was widely considered to be a dull, tedious, dinosaur classic rock station mainly aimed at old 1960s-1970s hippie burnouts and dullards who liked hearing Baba O'Reilly every single day. The old-school 1960s rock jocks who worked there were always super defensive, like they were courageously defending a beloved NYC cultural landmark. And it was all laughable bullshit, as no one gave a fuck about Scott Muni or Dave Herman, and no one missed them when they disappeared, either.

Some of the funniest lines on the show came from Opie. Nearly all of the major bits came from Opie. Saying "the mayor is dead" came from Opie. The entire format of the show came from Opie. If you really look at it, Opie invented the modern podcast and talk show, guys like Rogan and all of his imitators are just an extension of O&A. Almost every television show had its writers listening to O&A. From LOST to Breaking Bad even to Sex and the City where Sarah Jessica Parker's own driver kept the show on and she heard them badmouthing her and called in. Norton said the hardest he ever laughed in his life was Opie throwing the poker chips. Practically everyone involved in the WWE or UFC listened to O&A.

If Rogan, the number one talk show right now, literally credits you with reinventing the entire talk show format, how is simply accepting that as a fact narcissistic? Is Opie supposed to feel like shit? Or lie and say he didn't influence pop culture more than anyone in radio? What is the point you are even trying to make? Opie targeted Howard because he sent lawyers to destroy their show then lied about it on air. The gag order was what made that conflict go full scale where they were attacking each other's families.

Yes, Stern himself was never really that funny. But his show was funny. His downfall was firing Jackie, Billy, and everyone else who made his show amusing. And replacing them with Benjy and Marci Turk and the other disasters. From the mid to late 80s to maybe 2009 or so, Stern was still consistently entertaining. Though he was not nearly as edgy nor funny once he got to Sirius. Artie took his place as the edgy guy and once he was gone it was pretty much the death of the Stern Show ever being relevant again culturally.

People try to claim that Stern was always this pussy and a crazy cat lady just waiting to stop having to pretend to be the shock jock. But he was definitely laughing at the racist and sexist stuff that guys like Billy or Gilbert or whoever were throwing out in the studio. Stuff like Fred playing Jackie's laugh at news stories of women being raped or mass casualty events always got Stern to laugh. He did once have a dark sense of humor. Then changed and tried to re-imagine himself as a softer entertainer with the America's Got Talent and other stuff that never really took off.
