We're all being laid off. I've got money put away in savings, but it will only be enough to last a few months with bills and all that shit. Any you guys ever been in this situation and whats your best advice? Know we got a lot of honest hardworking men on the forums.

Start looking for another job ASAP. Not sure what your skill set is but in the mean time I recommend waiting tables or bartending until you get back on your feet. Restaurants are hurting right not and desperate for staff.

They haven't said anything about severance. Are they legally required to give us any? Never been fired or laid off before so wouldn't know
Depends on your position and company policy. Not legally required, no.

Can you apply for a role with the new co or what's the story? Do you work at Ted's compact disc emporium or why would you get bought and shut down. That don't make no sense.

Long story short. We got bought out by a much bigger company. I've known people who worked for them and they've all said it was horrible because of how corporate it is. They are giving us an option to come over for a similar position, but I'm already not really enjoying what I'm doing now so I'm sure if I go over ill just be fucking miserable and either quit because I hate it so much or purposely get fired.

Like an O&A caller you're panicking.

First, if you have any sort of skill set at all, in this economy, people are hiring left and right. They can't find enough people.

Second, you're not being laid off. Your company is being acquired and you're being asked if you want to stay.

I'm not saying this is a great position to be in. But so many people just get blindsided --- literally one day shit hits the fan and they don't have a job.

So what you do is as little as possible to keep your current situation, and look for new jobs. You accept the offer to be acquired and have a similar position and you keep looking for new jobs.

Also, in America in 2022, the best way to get a raise is to change jobs. You will likely be making more money 6 months from now.

Who bought Panera?

You've been acquired.

Old co has to terminate your employment. Ask your HR faggot what to expect.

You may be offered job placement assistance with the new co or externally.

New co can offer you a position through an offer letter.

This is where you negotiate your rate/salary. Get top $, and maybe you will find a role in the new co that didn't exist in the current one - safety, tech, training, bread bowl testing, whatever?

If you don't get the $ you want, check on unemployment but if you're not ready to change jobs keep the gig till you are ready.

Remember, you're a star shitposter on the internet's best site. You got this.

Basically this. Suck it up and keep the paycheck coming while you look to get out ASAP. Theres even a (small) chance it may not be as bad as you think staying.
