I worked with an older woman years ago who didn’t have a college degree but felt she be considered for higher paying jobs at the company that requires a degree because of her “life experience” which was…nothing. She was white trash that played the lottery everyday and believed every crazy retarded thing she saw on Facebook.
One time at work she overheard myself and an Indian co worker talking about how he had worked at 7-11 years ago. I asked him about the kind of customers that come in everyday and play the lottery / scratch offs etc and he said how it was sad because they people blowing their money on lottery / scratch offs everyday were the types that can’t afford to blow their money on such nonsense. I jokingly said to him “I bet they all told you stories about how they almost won” since those losers always have those stories and sure enough she popped into the conversation with “oh but I almost really did!”and told us the typical loser “I almost won!” Story that he heard all the time and just tried not to laugh.

My dad wouldn't play everyday but he'd get a $20 scratch off like once a week. He was a college professor with a PhD. I asked him why and he said it was just like a weekly ritual thing. He did win $1000 a couple times.
