John Scalzi stole Pat's idea, made it better, and wrote the book.

Herd Immunity was Pat's book about a female space marine protecting space elephants. He came up with the idea (or did he steal it as usual?) and never wrote a thing.

John Scalzi wrote a book about a guy in New York who quits his Uber-Eats job during the Covid pandemic to protect alternate Earth monsters in danger.

It's not set in space (everything is though if you think about it) and it's not a female protagonist but there's enough similarity there. It also sounds extremely gay and designed for the faggot audience they both aim at. Somehow, this professional author managed to write the book within a year. I guess he's not a drunk layabout farting his way through life in a dive bar.

How many unsold or abandoned manuscripts has he got now, since he got shown out by Tor?

New theory: Pat befriends other authors to find out their rough book plots, then immediately writes something very similar but of his typical low quality. He then sends it to the publishers who have already signed deals with those other authors. This forces their hand to buy his shitty books for the sole reason of not allowing the publishing of them to prevent any future legal problems.
