I avoided it for years because I didn't know about the survival aspect. I always thought it was only about building your own little world and not avoiding zombies and other shit.

I find it to be a relaxing game. The world is pretty much infinite and you can just be a nomad traveling in whatever direction you want and you won't find an invisible wall stopping you anywhere. Build your little camp, sleep at night, wake up and keep traveling.
