I could see if it was the old days and you had to shell out 15 bucks before you could listen to an album, but you can hear almost anything you want instantly for free now. If you want to induce some major douche-chills, go read the reviews at rateyourmusic.com. It's not a bad resource for learning about different genres, but the people that write there are insufferably pretentious dorks.

I hate the assholes who open a review with a long boring soliloquy and wax poetic about their lonely college/HS days or a break up they went through and how an album "found them at the right time" or how "on the third listen everything just clicked for me", did it??? Like you said, it can be good if you want to discover new music or go deeper with a genre, but the reviews are generally embarrassing.
