I tried giving Foo Fighters a chance

The second album is good, which is really the first Foo Fighters album. The first album is just Dave by himself.

I think this is a pretty good song if you’re not pre judging

It’s all downhill from there though. There is some decent stuff later on but mostly not. I thought “Wasting Light” was alright but there is a lot of shit otherwise.

The last 2 albums are unlistenable and with the last one I mean that literally. I downloaded it and never listened to it because the 2 singles I heard were so bad.

I still don’t mind admitting they put on a good show though. I just take a piss or go get a drink when they play the new stuff.

I liked the One by One album quite a bit. It hits hard all the way through and has a bit of Queens of the Stone Age vibe.

This one is good, but they don't have any songs (IMO, could be wrong) that you'd hear and think, "I'd love to listen to the rest of the album".

That’s basically it. They have a smattering of decent songs but nothing you’d sit at home and listen to for the most part but when you go to the show you end up hearing a lot of shit that you forgot about and before you know it 2 hours have gone by and you’ve had a good time. And I know this is super gay but it helps that they seem like good dudes who are having a good time up there and not taking themselves super seriously. They played a Bee Gees cover when I saw them a few months ago for Chrissakes.

An older English/Scottish guy I worked with - in his 50s, early 60s - told me "yeah that Dave Grohl seems like a great guy, but I hate to say it, none of his music is special". Foo Fighters got by more on their reputation than their music.

i dont really think thats true. They got their start because of reputation, sure, but people arent going to listen to them for 25 years because he used to be the drummer for nirvana in 1992

He's the last legit rock star. Novoselic stopped making music, Grohl went on, but Nirvana were the last legit big mainstream rock band. Guys like Homme never got household name status.

sure, but at this point i dont think you can say that people are buying tickets to their shows because he used to be in Nirvana. He's been in Foo Fighters something like 5x longer than he was in Nirvana. And to your Novoselic point, he was in other bands too and no one gave a shit so if that Nirvana cache was so great he would have been able to make something of himself too, but he didnt. People legitimatly like Foo Fighters. I'm not going to sit here and argue that theyre the rolling stones but clearly people actually like them for what they are. Everlong has had the shit played out of it for 2+ decades so its hard to evealuate it now since you may be sick of it but think back to when it first came out. Its a great fucking song.

Well, people are gay, and people are Foo Fighters, so you've got a point.

I liked their Darling Thiki (who was a WHORE btw) cover even though Prince's original was better

Also, I'm glad Sandy never got those tickets. Stupid bitch

As much as I shit on them they do have quite a few good songs but that’s all it is. You might get one album worth of good music out of their entire back catalogue and their most recent album is almost impressive in how terrible it is. No wonder it seems to be Pat’s favorite.

That's their second attempt with that album. The first attempt they trashed after being in studio for too long, spending too much money, and on the verge of a full break up. Everyone's favorite dead drummer (Godbewithhimnobs) called that "The Million Dollar Demos".

Cut to fifteen years later, and those mythical tracks get anonymously leaked in original, raw form. And you know something? I really liked it. Some songs are similar with different lyrics, some are much harder, some are arranged completely different. And in my opinion, maybe because it's also very raw - to the point you can hear the anger in Dave as he sings, especially on "Lonely As You" - it just feels and sounds much better.

You be the judge though, not like I have a bunch of albums to my name or anything.

To me they have a few songs that are feel-good tunes that remind me of a better era. Drinkin some beers on the beach Im throwin on my playlist with Sugar Ray, Everclear, Fuel, and yeah I’ll throw some fawkin Foo into the mix.
Its just aggravating to hear someone try to claim that they were anything more than a radio band
