I think it's possible that Pat's online persona is an attempt at a viral marketing campaign, but it's also just as likely that he works for her at whatever it is that her company does.

I don't see how either his online persona or his wife's fake company can generate any money, so both seem equally likely. Them being business partners would at least explain why she hasn't gotten a divorce.
