One of my pet peeves is when people say we created the Taliban in the 80s. The Taliban were a 90s phenomenon, and while many were Muj vets of the Soviet War, we had no hand in their internal affairs. Hell, I'd go so far as to say that our biggest failure was not really having a hand in their affairs, we just gave all the weapons to the ISI and they played favorites.

Also just as bad is people saying we funded bin Laden in the 80s.

It's even worse than that. We do what Israel tells us.

Yeah, all we had to do was give them some bags of gold and they would have killed or captured Bin Laden for us. It's just more proof that the Afghan war was never about Terrorism.
I'm glad this is becoming mainstream thought now. Sadly there're still enough dumbies, like those who posted Ukrainian flags

That people still think the Taliban and Al Qaeda are the same thing!

We're seriously fucked as a Civilization, aren't we? These people are fucking lost...

I read the Afghanistan Papers earlier this year. The US Army didn't even know the Taliban / Afghans don't speak Arabic, let alone have any insight into the Taliban as a group, or the nuances of Afghan culture or politics. Most Afghans didn't even know what Al Qaeda was.
