There is such a shortage on Adderall that the Mexican cartels are not only making fake pills out of meth and selling them on the streets. But they are actually getting them into pharmacies and hospitals. I would imagine that this practice is routine in China as well. And likely had already made its way to the U.S. and other first world countries.

there's only a shortage because of production quotas from the DEA/FDA, combined with the fact so many more people are using it recently - exacerbated by telemedicine - people are straight-up using it as a performance enhancer; streamers / podcasters, writers, etc. In some work environments people need it just to compete or even keep-up.
