Has anyone seen Alice in Chains with Duvall?

I saw them when they first came back in 2009 or 10. I was 17 and they were pretty good. I distinctly remember Duvall doing a good job on rain when I die.

I had tix to see them on their last tour but bailed because I couldn't score any coke for the show and I was depressed. As I've grown older and gone through the ringer with drugs their music has only grown more relatable to me, and they're now one of my favorite bands ever. Layne was such an incredible vocalist and his substance abuse issues both made and broke him. I don't think he would've been as good without the junk. This is one of my favorite songs from them:

I love that fuckin roar thing he does after the solo fades out. It's not necessarily impressive but it just feels so real. Nobody expressed pain and anguish like him. Every live performance of the song included that little bit.

Until now with the new guy. This version sounds like fuckin dog shit. He doesn't even attempt to do the roar thing. Im glad Jerry is getting to play his big songs with a coherent and drama/drug free band. I imagine he was robbed of that experience for much of aics prime due to layne being such a junky.

Duvall is like Sam's club Lenny kravitz who is quite bland in his own right. You're Alice in chains. They could've gotten anyone they wanted. But then again there's no filling laynes shoes and it is a very intimidating prospect to try and do so. Duvall is just so aggravatingly mediocre and he seems to have gotten worse in the last 15 years.

Ive always loved their unplugged performance but I would like to see the unedited version because layne was allegedly so fucked up he needed like 80 takes to record every song. I know they kept one of his fuck ups included on sludge factory.

I'll hang up now.

William Duvall was in a band called "Comes With The Fall", who opened for Jerry Cantrell when he did his tour to support the "Boggy Depot" album. Duvall joined Cantrell's band onstage to cover Layne's parts for any AIC songs that were played.

I saw this in concert in 2002. It worked pretty well for what it was, IMO.

If you've only heard their big hits then these guys are worth looking into further, I'd say a darker cloud around even without the death

I saw them in either 2013 or 2014 at a festival. I kinda looked over at my friend and was like "eeeeeh..." They were okay, but not great or anything. Just disappointing, I'd put AIC in my top five bands based on the 90s alone.

Black Gives Way To Blue is a great album but I don't really consider it AIC, although when I first heard Check My Brain on the radio when it came out I was like "hey this band sounds like AIC".

Jerry Cantrell is the most talented and valuable grunge guy imo. Great guitarist, good vocals, just kinda overshadowed by a lot of guys because of whatever reason.

Great thread, man. Yeah, I seen them in 2012. They played Grind, which I was pretty psyched about, Duvall forgot how to transition into this one portion of the song, they literally had to stop and re-start, and almost played a different song entirely. Major fuck up for a big band. Not a big deal, but im all fuckin in with bashing this poor mans Lenny Kravits (something i've called him for years) This is the continuation of the Jerry Cantrell solo years, Duvall was his backing singer back then too, for Degradation Trip and possibly even Boggy Depot. Im all for Jerry playing his songs from way back, but Duvall fuckin blows ass. He had a couple cool vocal deliveries on their comeback album...but yeah, California? The fuck you guys doin.
