Sometimes I think it's also just the neediness that keeps them going. Mick Jagger is financially astute - he studied at the LSE and tactically shafted Jerry Hall out of a big divorce settlement before they even got married; as well as having a shitload of money diversified over several properties and god knows how many high-yield investment funds. But he won't stop touring until he can't anymore because he loves the audience adulation. Most of these people are basically just attention whores when you boil it down.
