I think Family Matters was meant to show white America the lives of working class black folk. But no one gave a shit, especially during a time when Good Times was still in syndication. So they invented this little Pee-Wee Herman nog a few seasons in to appeal to rubes and kids. It was a pretty embarrassing era for all races in America.I don't think we ever got Urkel in the UK, so I don't know much about the show. Who was the audience for this? People like Pat whose parents didn't want them hanging out with scary black people? At least Fresh Prince tried to be relatable with the yoof.
The show started off just showing a modern, black middle class family. The Midwestern rubes really liked Urkel and they wove him into every episode. It wasnt a bad show until they made the dancing retard a reoccurring character.I don't think we ever got Urkel in the UK, so I don't know much about the show. Who was the audience for this? aired after school. it was show for fucking preteens.
Urkel wasn’t even meant to be a main cast member, the show (which was a spin off of Perfect Strangers) was meant to be about a middle class black family. Urkel was on one episode as Laura’s blind date and the viewers loved the annoying nerdy black kid and decided to make the whole show around him and even sold Urkel merchandise. The show ran for close to a decade and 8 of those years were all about Urkel. The show started off just showing a modern, black middle class family. He also had a cameo on Full House.
Fucking cereal too! They even sold Urkel dolls
Some Urkel-Os would really hit the spot right now tobehoneswicha.Fucking cereal too!
The best part was he got stuck having to be Urkel into his adult years on that show. He had to keep doing that high pitch voice after going through puberty and acting like an idiot on TV while in his early 20s. Watch anything from the last seasons and he’s just killing himself still trying to talk in that annoying voice which only got worse because he had to strain his vocal cords just so he could say “Did I Do Thaaat?” over and over again. They let him do his cool guy character every now and then (I’m sure it was in his contract) just so he could show everyone “I don’t talk like that! Please don’t typecast me! I can play a cool guy!” Even though after Urkel nobody was calling.Don't you just want to beat that little fucker to death? I can say that because it's not black history month anymore.
Fresh out, bossSome Urkel-Os would really hit the spot right now tobehoneswicha.
