My biggest regret is my silence. I said nothing when Patrick told hundreds of horribly racist jokes. When he said “James Earl Ray is a national hero. There should be a statue of him in every city in America” I just nodded. When he was fundraising for the Milwaukee chapter of the KKK I gave him $10. I knew Patrick S. Tomlinson was a vile person but I was too cowardly to stand up to him. I was more worried about fitting in with the group than standing up for what was right. I know nothing I can say will make up for all the harmful behavior I was complicit in but I want to do better in the future. All I can do is disavow Patrick Tomlinson and all the awful things he has said and done over the years. I hope one day I can earn forgiveness for my role in his evil.
