ELI5 - What is the difference between canned salmon and canned tuna?

I have an acquaintance on here who struggles with this, but he's a little embarrassed, even downright emotional talking on the subject. Can someone lay it out like you would for a child, and please, don't be judgemental.

Never had canned salmon but canned tuna eats pretty good. That, Cheerios, bacon and baked beans pretty much got me through college.
