I just realized I stopped watching TV around 2007. I would watch Soprano's up until it's finale because I had started watching it Middle School when which was before the internet was fast enough and TV was the only source of real entertainment, so I couldn't abandon it like I did The Simpsons in probably 2004 when I was in High School.
By 2002 I was already entertained by playing games online and the faster more available broadband internet popped around I stopped caring about watching anything new, so I never gave The Wire a shot.
Everyone tells me I need to watch it, but then I just end up playing GTA online or fucking around on the YouTube.
The last movie I seen in a theater was Deadpool and that was because a friend was in town and said we needed to see it.
It's funny because that was the last time I seen that friend as well. It was rare to see him in general before he hit me up to see that dog shit and since then I never reached out to him and now I see it's been 8 fucking years lol.I am in the exact same boat. Sometimes I feel like a frozen caveman who was just brought back to life, and has no idea about the shows and movies people reference.
Whenever someone tells me "you have to see [x] show" I stop and consider the source. These people who I have absolutely nothing in common with, don't respect, and laugh at constantly are trying to give me recommendations. Why WOULD I enjoy anything they like? So I can sound like a faggot when I talk about it, like they do? OMG AND THEN, THE MANGDALORIAN SHOOTED HIS LASER GUN!!!
This happened to me, but not in theaters. It was on Netflix and I told them 5-10 times I didn't want to watch it. I sat stone-faced through the entire unfunny hunk of shit Deadpool movie. They didn't comment on me being a buzzkiller but I really felt like one because I couldn't even pretend it wasn't a painful experience to sit there and suffer through that QUIRKY dogshit movie. I literally wanted to punch my faggot friends teeth out for insisting we watch the movie after I said over and over I didn't wanna watch it. I tried to be normal, I wasn't being critical to spite them. It was sincerely that awful.

I do remember how much I hated the fucking movie. I know nothing about the Deadpool character and early one turned to my friend and asked if he normally does the 4 wall break and he gleefully confirmed it and I just sat annoyed during the whole movie. It was the opening week of the movie too, I remember it being cold and wet and miserable and I'm in a huge line waiting to see a movie when at that point the last movie I had seen was probably 4 years prior.
The theater was full and everyone laughed at everything including shit that they probably seen 20x in the promotional trailers for the movie. I didn't even smirk once. I thought I was broken.
I swear we are the same person.Sitting with a bunch of people I thought I knew was surreal enough. To see them lapping up all that fucking slop, the kind of low hanging corny shit that I would mock with these very friends... I was starting to think it was a nightmare. Being in a theater full of mouthbreathing strangers laughing at every little sarcastic comment probably would have had me questioning my sanity.
I don't embellish when I say I have absolutely no memories of the movie itself. All I can feel is the repressed fury being bottled up as I tried to behave like a normal person and not lose it on these idiots. Cackling away, at EVERY throwaway one liner that never should have made it past a crumpled page in a writers room trash bin.
It might be insane to say this, but I think the divide of politics at that time really petrified people into becoming mouth-drooling retards who just want to clap at loud noises and flashing lights on the screen. "Let's immerse ourselves in this fake ass world to distract us from the literal nazis marching in the streets!"
I gotcha kangz
It's not a terrible show, but nowhere near worth the hype around it. For a show that was allegedly hyper-realistic, I found a scene of two detectives solving a crime by just repeatedly saying "fuck" just a bit farfetched. It's not re-watchable like the Sopranos.I just realized I stopped watching TV around 2007. Same with movies too. The last movie I seen in a theater was Deadpool and that was because a friend was in town and said we needed to see it.
Nothing is really re-watchable like The Sopranos though. Almost every show or movie I have ever seen I can get tired of after a few repeat viewings. Even things like Casino, Donnie Brasco, Goodfellas can get tiring after multiple straight viewings. I can watch Sopranos and Godfather I and II pretty much looped and never get bored. I would argue that Oz on HBO is actually as well written as Sopranos it is just so hard to watch because of how brutal and bleak and miserable the entire show is from start to finish. It's not a terrible show, but nowhere near worth the hype around it. Completely agree about Sopranos and Godfather I and II. I get something new out of them each time. I couldn't imagine trying to rewatch fucking Lost, Jesus. I also agree about Boardwalk. The last two seasons are what has stopped from watching it again. Maybe I will. I knew about the Michael Pitt thing going in, and it's very obvious. There's almost no shots of him in frame with another actor. Guy's a world-class asshole, apparently. Got fired from Hannibal too.Nothing is really re-watchable like The Sopranos though. I can still re-watch The Wire once every few years and enjoy it for what it is. A generally more serious police procedural until the faggy politics and media sections. But trying to re-watch former 'prestigious' shows like Lost, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, is pretty much impossible at this point.
Boardwalk Empire is good for a watch every year or so but the last two seasons are such a huge drop in quality. I just watch them wondering if the main writers had not abandoned the show to make Vinyl how great it could have been. You can just tell that everyone is phoning it in. Also once you learn that in season two Michael Pitt aka James Darmody was never on set with the other actors it becomes very obvious. Apparently he kept forgetting his lines and so in most of his scenes they just have a body double stand in front of him and he is never on set with any of the other actors.
He is probably one of the most talented actors of all time though based on what I have seen. He must have some real personal issues. But Phillip Seymour Hoffman and James Gandolfini drugged themselves to death and were incredibly talented as well. The film industry does not really care if you are healthy when you work.Completely agree about Sopranos and Godfather I and II. I get something new out of them each time.
