Star Wars ruined modern science fiction. Morality plays and philosophical metaphors were replaced with little people in Furries outfits and explosions. That's why my Star Trek is now a barren whore.
I fucking hate it. It's more ubiquitous than ever now too. How many goddamn spin off shows does it have at this point?
Fucking childish shite.
Very true. Also, American Graffiti is Lucas' best film.I'll give Lucas some credit - he did three movies, took a long time to tell the beginning of the story (they sucked, but still were HIS stories), allowed it to be merchandised but not to the insane degree Disney does, let people write books in his sandbox to their hearts content, and didn't overstay his welcome. All that from a sci Fi ripoff of Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" that was only saved from being a mess of a film by the editing skills of his ex wife and the imagination of his special effects crew. The oversaturation is pure Disney - Lucas only whored the product out to kids with the toys and books, maybe a few video games.
"Forbidden Planet" over "Empire Strikes Back" every day.

Boy would I love to be able to watch the original THX and not the CGI fuck fest that every print is. I remember how disappointed I was when I got the DVD ages ago and it was the "retouched" version.THX-1138 was a flawed but very good example that he could go cerebral with science fiction, but he wanted his little tribute to Flash Gordon instead.
I hate that Star Wars became that special, but it's because he protected it so much and limited what he did with it that it was. If Disney bought it from him in '83, I can guarantee you the love for it today would be nowhere near as high.
I was actually looking for a bootleg DVD of the original copy the other day. I am glad that I kept my original VHS, but I don't have a VCR on which to watch it.Boy would I love to be able to watch the original THX and not the CGI fuck fest that every print is.
