They aren't very clear on how a few of these things work. It seems like it's not that you won't be able to play the "same" civilization the whole way through but more that they evolve and take on different names/characteristics as the game progresses which is realistic. How they change probably depends on the decisions you make in-game.

I wish there were a game that combined the best parts of Civ and Crusader Kings/Europa Universalis minus all the fucking DLC you have to buy for CK/EU.
