To be fair, there was speculation on the possibility of him being a Marrano for a long time. German economist Werner Sombart had a section on it in "The Jews and Modern Capitalism" back in the early 1900's, although his evidence was flimsy. Columbus' writings and actions showed someone who was genuinely committed to the crown and the Church. Conversos (the Spanish jews that pretended to convert) only did so to not get hassled by the Catholic monarchs. There were some genuine converts, some that even became saints, but they were pretty rare. You also have these campaigns led by communist jews like Howard Zinn that tried to paint Columbus as a genocidal sex slaver, but their claims crumble when you actually investigate the citations. If he was a member of the tribe, those smear campaigns wouldn't be happening.

Literally nothing about Columbus' life makes sense if you work with the hypothesis that he was a Spanish crypto-Jew actively trying to hide his ancestry. He didn't exactly try to stay inconspicuous and he made a bunch of enemies at court over the years. It's fucking preposterous to think there wouldn't be rumors spread far and wide if his pedigree was remotely questionable.

The other problem is that I think we actually know a fair bit about Columbus' family in ITALY that can be verified. So that makes it even more dubious, unless it's an exceptionally elaborate case of identity theft.
