Where are we at with Missouri Breaks? It's admittedly from before my time, but it's one of my favorites. Nicholson and Brando were amazing in it

Platoon is fucking awesome.

I prefer its Tarantino-inspired alternate title: "Coming Home in a Bodybag."

Braveheart is my least favorite of the Gibson directed movies.

Apocalypto > Passion > Hacksaw > Braveheart

MAAAAAAAAHN

But yeah all of those movies are classics except for The Prestige. Replace that one with American Psycho and you’ve got a marathon for a man’s man.
American Psycho is a borefest, much like Donnie Darko. It isn't something worth revisiting after first watch.

Have you watched American Psycho recently? If you haven’t seen it since you were 19 then I’d give it another try, brotherman. Like it or not you’ve no business comparing a sophisticated piece of art based on a novel (with good humor and performances) to that student-scripted faggot movie Donnie Darko.

He didn't direct it but as far as Mel movies go, Payback is extremely underrated. I prefer the theatrical version but the original version is alright too.
I wish the whole movie was as good as the opening credits sequence where he's grifting etc.

I recently stumbled upon a deleted scene from Platoon where they give some more insights into the histories and origins of Barnes and Elias. They don't overexplain Barnes or offer any real meaningful details to his backstory, which I appreciated. But they did say Elias was from the west coast and got pinched for drugs and came over instead of going to prison. I like that they deleted the scene though because the "where the fuck did they come from?" aspect of their personalities really defined their characters. Barnes especially. You wonder what the fuck a guy like that would do when he's sent home from war. How he was before all the scars. The fact that he's an urban myth even among his own platoon adds so much to his mystique. We never get a satisfying, definitive backstory for him. The biggest insight we get into who he is as a person, or a husk of a person, is the "death? What y'all know 'bout death?" speech. And that's all we really need to know about Barnes.

It also does cover how difficult it was for soldiers to transition to civilian life. If they could've cut the origin story stuff and included that it may have made the film stronger. There's also an alternate ending at the end of the comp where Taylor lets Barnes live that felt half-assed. The idea of Taylor letting Barnes live, knowing that his life is a constant living Hell that he will never escape, even if he makes it to the end of the war, and that being his punishment, is interesting. But the footage that's been released makes it seem underwhelming. Still cool to watch though if you like the movie.
